2012 Racing Stable

MAGICALLY (2009-homebred by MR. GREELY out of HANDPAINTED by A.P. INDY).

Magically is a half sister to Oil Painting, PATENA and recent maiden special weight winner Contemporary (these are the first 3 foals out of the mare). Contemporary broke his maiden at first asking in January 2012 at the Fair Grounds.

Magically will retire to the Hill ‘N’ Dale broodmare band at the end of her racing career where she will be along side of her half sister Oil Painting, her mother HANDPAINTED (multiple stakes winner $435,406) and SERENADING (graded stakes winner and Canadian Champion), a full sister to HANDPAINTED.

In 2011 BRILLIANT SPEED became another G1 winner from this family. He is out of a ½ sister to HANDPAINTED and SERENADING. This pedigree shows no signs of slowing down and is without question the most prolific gene pool Hill ‘N’ Dale Canada has been involved in. It is one of the premier female families in Canadian racing history.

MAGICALLY trained for much of her 2 year-old year but did not make the races. By taking a very conservative approach we hope to have this imposing filly at the track for a long time.

2009 Racing Stable

PATENA (2006 homebred colt by SEEKING THE GOLD ex HANDPAINTED by A.P. INDY)

PATENA is the first foal out of graded stakes mare HANDPAINTED. PATENA began training under the care of Eddie Woods, before being sent in to Josie Carroll at Woodbine Racetrack. 70% of PATENA was sold to IEAH in January of 2009 and has been transferred to Dick Dutrow.

PATENA won by almost 5 lengths in a 14 horse maiden special weight field at Woodbine in 2008 and then followed that up with a courageous victory in the $150,000 Display S. In his first start as a 3 year-old, PATENA was a closing 2nd in the G3 Lecomte S.

After 2 sub-par performances in the Louisiana Derby and the G1 Bluegrass S., PATENA was found to have bone chips in 3 ankles and significant bruising of the cannon bones. Surgery was successfully performed on April 15, 2009.

PATENA went back in training for conditioner Richard Dutrow working his first ½ mile at Belmont Park on September 30 but has since been laid up for another rest.

SERENADING (2004 homebred filly A.P. INDY ex DAIJIN by DEPUTY MINISTER)

SERENADING is a beautifully bred full sister to Graded stakes mare HANDPAINTED. Her dam was a Canadian G1 stakes winner and placed in the Test S. G1 at Saratoga. This is the immediate family of Broodmare of The Year PASSING MOOD - dam of TOUCH GOLD - G1, WITH APPROVAL - G1 etc.

SERENADING made her first start in March 2007 at the Fair Grounds and was a closing 2nd in a MSW. SERENADING later won three consecutive starts, all in allowance company at Woodbine Race Track.

SERENADING ran 3rd in the $100,000 Belle Mahone S. at Woodbine Racetrack (8/19/07). Running 1 1/16 miles against older fillies and mares, SERENADING closed with a flourish to be nosed out for place money.

SERENADING made 4 starts in 2008. In her first three starts she ran second, including the Hill 'N' Dale Stakes (by a head) and the Ontario Matron Stakes (both times to millionaire BEAR NOW). In the final start of 2008 SERENADING turned the tables on millionaire BEAR NOW while winning the $100,000 Belle Mahone S.

SERENADING made an eye catching debut in 2009 running a game 2nd in the Doubledogdare S. G3 at Keeneland on 4/17/09.

SERENADING made her 2nd 2009 start in the Arlington Matron G3 on 5/23. The race got off to a rough start when SERENADING stumbled badly coming out of the gate. She ran well to be 5th in a race that was marred by a bad spill.

After finishing 4th as odds on favourite in the June 20 $100,000 Hill ‘N’ Dale S. at Woodbine, SERENADING was given a rest to regroup. Her first start back was in the $100,000 Avowal S. on October 3. SERENADING dominated the last 2 starts of her career winning both the $175,000 Maple Leaf S. (Woodbine Racetrack) and the Falls City H. G2 (Churchill Downs) and was later named Canada’s Champion Older Mare.
